Indian Army JAG 125th Course: Vacancy & Eligibility Details 

Those who want to apply for these vacancies under the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Branch must know the eligibility requirements. You can only apply for these seats if you meet the following rules:

Marital Status & Nationality

  • Unmarried Only: Only unmarried male and unmarried female candidates with a law degree can apply.
  • Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who has permanently settled in India from countries like Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, or East African nations. You must show a certificate from the Government of India for these categories, except Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

Educational Qualification

  • LLB Degree Score: You must have a minimum of 55% total marks in your LLB degree (whether it is a 3-year course after graduation or a 5-year course after 10+2).
  • CLAT PG 2026 Score: This is mandatory for everyone applying. Even if you have an LLM degree or are currently appearing for the LLM, you must have taken this specific test. No other CLAT PG exam score will be accepted.
  • Advocate Registration: Only candidates who are eligible to register as an advocate with the Bar Council of India or any State Bar Council can apply.
  • College Recognition: You must have completed your law degree from a college or university recognized by the Bar Council of India.
  • Result Verification: Applicants must get their CLAT PG 2026 result checked and verified at the Selection Centre before your SSB interview starts. If you fail to do this, you will not be allowed to give the interview.

What Is the Age Limit?

  • Age Bracket: Your age must be between 21 and 27 years old as of January 1, 2027.
  • Birth Date Rules: You must not be born earlier than January 2, 2000, and not later than January 1, 2006.
  • Proof Document: The bank and army selection board will only accept your 10th standard certificate as the final proof of your date of birth.

Indian Army JAG Salary and Rank Details

Selected candidates under this job opportunity will get a good salary package. 

  • Stipend During Training: They will receive a fixed stipend of INR 56,100 per month during training at OTA.
  • Starting Rank: When you finish your training successfully, you will be appointed to the army with the rank of Lieutenant.
  • Pay Level & Salary: Your starting basic pay will be under Level 10, ranging from INR 56,100 to INR 1,77,500
  • Military Service Pay (MSP): You will also get a fixed Military Service Pay (MSP) of INR 15,500 per month (applicable from Lieutenant rank up to Brigadier).
  • Total Yearly Package (CTC): Your approximate package (CTC) upon joining will be around INR 17 to INR 18 Lakhs per year.
  • Extra Allowances: Selected candidates will also get extra allowances depending on your posting rules. This includes DA, Para Allowance, Field Area Allowance, Dress Allowance, Transport Allowance, Children’s Education Allowance, Hostel Subsidy, and others.

What Is the Selection Process?

Candidates applying for the 10 vacancies under the Indian Army JAG 125th course must pass multiple stages to secure this opportunity. Here are complete details about the selection process:

  • Shortlisting: Firstly, the online applications will be shortlisted based on your CLAT PG 2026 scores and the fixed vacancy cut-offs.
  • SSB Center Choice: Shortlisted candidates can select their preferred SSB Centre and interview date on a first-come, first-served basis. It is very important to note that after choosing a date, you can’t change it.
  • SSB Interview: You will undergo a 5-day selection interview at one of the Selection Centres (Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru, or Jalandhar). This is a two-stage process. Those who fail Stage-1 on the first day will be sent back home immediately. Candidates who pass Stage-1 stay for the next 4 days.
  • Medical Exam: Those who pass Stage-2 of the SSB interview will go through a detailed medical examination.
  • Final Merit List: A final merit list will be prepared based on the marks you score during your SSB interview.
  • Joining Letter: Candidates who clear all the stages will receive an official joining letter for Pre-Commission Training at OTA Chennai.

Note: Passing the SSB interview doesn’t mean you get the job. The final selection depends on your rank on the merit list and if there are vacancies available.

Documents Needed for SSB Interview

If you are selected for the SSB interview at the Selection Centre, you must bring all your required original documents. You must note that DigiLocker certificates will not be accepted in place of your physical original documents. Your original documents will be returned after verification. 

  • Application Form Printout: A printed copy of your submitted online application form with a self-attested passport photo pasted on it.
  • 10th Class Certificate: Your Matriculation/Secondary School Certificate or equivalent mark sheet as your birth date proof.
  • 12th Class Certificate: Your 12th passing certificate and official mark sheet.
  • Graduation Degree: Your final Graduation Degree or Provisional Degree (for 3-year LLB after regular graduation).
  • LLB Degree: Your LLM or LLB degree certificate from a recognized college.
  • Mark Sheets: Your mark sheets for all years or semesters.
  • Bar Council Registration: A certificate showing your college is recognized by the Bar Council of India or a State Bar Council. Proof that you are registered as a lawyer.
  • CGPA Conversion Formula: A formal document showing the CGPA-to-percentage conversion formula from your university (if applicable).
  • CLAT PG Score Card: Your CLAT PG 2026 scorecard.

  • Firstly, you have to visit the official website (joinindianarmy.nic.in) and then click on ‘Officer Entry Application/Login’.
  • Then, you have to click on the ‘Registration’ button. If you have already registered before, you can skip this and log in directly.
  • Now, you must read all the instructions carefully before filling out the online registration form.
  • After registration, you have to find the Apply Online link on the dashboard.
  • Next, you have to find the Short Service Commission JAG Entry Course option and click ‘Apply’ right next to it.
  • You must accurately fill in your personal details, address, education marks, and any past SSB interview history.
  • Before clicking on Submit, you must review your complete form to make sure there are no typos or spelling errors. 
  • Wait for 30 minutes after the registration closes on the final day, then log back in to take two printouts of your application form with your roll number.

Key Points to Note

  • Make sure to double-check every detail you enter, as you can’t edit or correct any mistakes once the application window closes.
  • If your college gives grades or CGPA, you must convert them into percentage marks using your university’s formula before entering them.
  • Your name, DOB, and your father’s and mother’s names must match your Class 10 certificate.
  • If you send multiple forms, your application will be canceled.
  • If you are currently serving in the Regular Army, Navy, or Air Force, you must inform your Commanding Officer in writing and bring a signed copy to the SSB center.
