HPPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Vacancy Details

HPPSC has released the notification of hiring 369 Assistant Professor posts available across 22 subjects. Selected candidates will be paid an INR 35,000 fixed monthly salary as trainees. The last date to apply for these posts has been extended after receiving requests from many applicants. It is very important to note that each subject has its own application on the official portal.

  • The vacancies for English Assistant Professor are the most (39), while Dance and Table have only 2 posts each. 
  • Every subject vacancy is also divided into different UR, SC, ST, OBC, and EWS. There are sub-quotas for applicants from categories, like Ex-Servicemen, Wards of Freedom Fighters, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, where applicable.

Who Can Apply: Educational Qualification

Candidates with a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in specific subjects can apply online for these posts before the closing date. Here are the details of the required educational qualification: 

  1. You must have a Master’s degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in the relevant subject from a recognized university.
  1. Applicants from SC/ST/OBC, and PwBD categories must have secured 50% marks.
  1. Candidates who completed their Master’s degree before September 1991 are eligible for the 5% relaxation.
  1. Candidates must have qualified NET, UGC-CSIR NET, or SLET/SET, unless exempted.
  1. Ph.D. holders don’t need to take the NET/SLET/SET if their Ph.D. meets the required UGC regulations. 
  • You did a regular, full-time program.
  • Two outside examiners checked your thesis (including an open interview or viva).
  • You published at least two research papers (one referred)
  • You presented your research at two conferences. 
  1. Candidates waiting for their SET-2026 result can also apply. The HPPSC will reopen the application window for those candidates if their results are released after the end date.

HPPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Age Criteria 

  • General Age Limit: Applicants must be between 18 and 45 years old.
  • Crucial Date: Age is calculated based on how old you were on 1 January 2026. You have to show the 10th class certificate as age proof. 
  • 5-Year Age Relaxation (Up to 50 years old): This applies to Bonafide HP applicants from SC, ST, OBC, Wards of Freedom Fighters, and Persons with Disabilities categories. This only applies if a seat is reserved for your category in your chosen subject.
  • Government Workers & Ex-Servicemen: Age relaxation rules for HP Government employees and Ex-Servicemen follow separate government orders. 

What Is the Application Fee?

Applicants from all categories have to pay INR 600 for these posts. The fee must be paid online using approved payment methods, like Debit Card, Credit Card, and UPI. This fee is non-refundable, and if you are applying for more than one subject, you have to pay INR 600 per subject. 

HPPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: How to Apply?

Here are the steps that you need to follow to apply for these posts released by HPPSC:

  • Firstly, you have to visit the official site (http://www.hppsc.hp.gov.in/hppsc).
  • Then click on the Apply Online option on the main page.
  • You have to select OTR for Examinations and create a new account if you don’t have one.
  • Then you need to log into your account and view job notifications on the dashbord/
  • After that, you have to choose the specc subject notice and fill out the application form.
  • You have to upload clear scans of your 10th certificate, degrees, marksheets, category certificate, and Bonafide HP proof.
  • Then pay the INR 600 fee online and select the final check box that confirms your documents are readable.
  • Lastly, you have to click on submit and download the application form, and keep the hard copy for personal records.

Note: You can’t make changes to your application once you submit it. So, make sure you fill in the correct details only.

Documents You Need to Attach

All the applicants must make sure the scanned photos of the required documents are of high quality to ensure the form does not get rejected. 

  • Matriculation (10th) Certificate to prove your correct age.
  • Degree Certificates along with all your yearly marksheets.
  • Experience Certificate if your post asks for it.
  • Valid Category Certificates (like SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen) in the proper format.
  • Bonafide Himachali Certificate if you are applying under any reserved category.
  • Income & Asset Certificate if you are applying under EWS.
  • BPL Certificate (signed by a BDO) along with a non-SC/ST/OBC document if you are a BPL applicant.

What Is the Selection Process?

The selection process for these posts includes two exams that will be conducted on the same day. The final rank depends on your marks from Paper 2 and your personality interview marks. 

Stage 1: Application Checking

Firstly, the department will review the candidates’ applications. If any eligibility condition is not met, the form will be rejected. You get 10 days to reply or clear any issues.

Stage 2: Paper-I (Screening Test)

This exam will have 100 MCQs, and its duration will be 1 hour. It will include 30 marks for HP GK, 30 marks for National and International Current Affairs, 20 marks for Hindi, and 20 marks for English. The marks of this paper will not be counted for final selection, but applicants must qualify for stage 3.

Stage 3: Paper-II (Subject Aptitude Test – SAT)

This is a 3-hour descriptive exam with 120 marks. The questions in this exam will be related to your specific teaching subject. It will be conducted on the same day as Paper-I.

Stage 4: Document Checking

Candidates short-listed based on Paper II marks will be called for document verification. If a subject has more than 11 seats, 5 candidates are called for every 1 seat. If a subject has up to 10 seats, 5 candidates plus 3 extra are called.

Stage 5: Personality Test (Interview)

This is a 30-minute interview that will be held at the HPPSC Shimla office. General candidates must score at least 40% to pass, while reserved candidates need a minimum of 30% to qualify for the final round.

Stage 6: Final Selection Rank

The selection rank is calculated out of 150 marks [Paper-II SAT score (120 marks) and your Personality Test score (30 marks)].

Note: 0.25 marks will be deducted for wrong MCQ selection or blank answers on the objective test. If you score negative or zero in Paper 1, you will be disqualified. General candidates must secure 45% for the Paper II SAT exam, while 40% is the eligibility requirement for the Reserved category applicants.
